Mark your calendars! Thursday, May 7th (10:00 p.m., ET), the ABC television network will air a one-hour special, Michael J. Fox: Adventures of an Incurable Optimist. Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 1998, will examine the nature of optimism.

The special follows Fox as he journeys to the Himalayan nation of Bhutan and attends President Obama’s inauguration, in addition to meeting with doctors and scientists to better understand the nature of optimism. Fox also reflects on science and his own personal experiences- he says the past decade since his diagnosis have been among his happiest.

The former “Family Ties” and “Spin City” actor has devoted himself to Parkinson’s disease research in the decade since he was diagnosed with the disease.

Fox is also the author of Lucky Man and the newly released, Always Looking Up. An excerpt from his latest book can be read by clicking here.

I just started reading Always Looking Up and so far it’s wonderful. I’m really enjoying it.

Sister sent me a picture of Mum and Dad at the Red Sox game versus the Angels. Looks like they had a good time.

There’s another game coming up in May… Dad just might have to go, again! Mom bought him the MLB ticket package on cable so he can watch all the games. He absolutely loves the Red Sox and it makes him happy, which, in return, makes me happy to know he’s happy. 🙂

Hugs Through a Dress

Mom told me yesterday that since I’ve been away, every day, Dad goes in to the closet, finds my wedding dress and hugs it. He told Mum he does it because it’s the only way he can hug me while I’m away. It certainly made me chuckle a bit but also a little sad for not being there. In any case, I’m glad my wedding dress is at least being put to good use again after a few years of just hanging there 🙂

Good Times for Dad

I’ve been talking to the fam at home and it appears things are going well. They’ve gone to the Red Sox baseball game and Sister had Dad out at the driving range today whacking away at the balls. I guess he’s doing well. Tonight they went out for Mexican food at a popular restaurant that has a live band. Apparently, they danced the night away and had a great time.

Sister said at first Dad didn’t want to go out but after some coaxing from her, he decided to go. I’m glad she’s able to get Mom and Dad out of the house for a bit. I’m especially pleased to hear Dad was able to go to the driving range and dance! Yay for Sister!

I’ve gotten some emails asking how Australia is going and I must say it’s lovely to be back. We’re having a great time although it’s tough being so far away from Mum & Dad, Sister and friends again. Despite the distance, we’re having a great time and love being back in Sydney. Shortly, we’ll be off to New Zealand for a holiday.

If you’d like to read more about our time in OZ, you can check out my other blog, It Feels Like Home.

Red Sox in Town

It sounds like Mom, Dad and Sister are having a good time together. The Boston Red Sox were in town so they all went to the game on Saturday. I guess Dad had a bit of a rough morning but once they got to the game, he did well and had a good time. Sister said he had a really good day so that was good to hear. I’m glad they got to go since the Red Sox are one of my Dad’s favorite sports teams. And the icing on the cake for the day was that the Red Sox won, woo hoo!
